This Military Tribunal is reported in the Eastbourne Gazette on 2nd August 1916. The Military Represenative Mr. Beattie seems to be on good form.
Helping the War or Himself?
V.W.Marley, 31, married taxi cab proprietor was represented by Mr. Hillman who explained the great financial hardship which could result in the applicants enlistment.
Mr. Beattie “You are doing nothing at present to help the war?”
Mr. Hillman “He is keeping a wife and three children.”
Mr. Beattie “Is that helping the war or helping himself?”
Six weeks (final).
